Rheumatology & Immunology | Fellowship Program
The Division of Rheumatology and Immunology has an ACGME
accredited fellowship program in pediatric
rheumatology. Two fellows matriculate each year. The
fellows interact together in clinical
activities during the first year which consists of
outpatient and inpatient activities as well as electives
in the specialty
laboratories learning the diagnostic approaches to the
evaluation of patients with immunologic disorders, sports
medicine, orthopedics and adult rheumatology. The
subsequent years of the fellowship are devoted to laboratory
investigation with a continuity clinic in order to
fulfill fellowship requirements.
The fellowship program is supported by a National Institutes
of Health Training Grant entitled The Mechanisms of
Childhood Infection and Immunity. This is an institutional
research training grant the long-term objective of which is
to foster the growth and development of physician/scientists
and pediatric immunology and infectious diseases.
Utilizing the unique resources of
the Center for Immunology, the training program has a list of
participating faculty, pediatricians and basic scientists
with common interests and frequent investigative and
scholarly interactions. The program provides for the
fellows course work, journal clubs and seminars as well as
a unique opportunity for the training of selected
individuals in the application of fundamental experimental
methods to the treatment and prevention of immunologic and
rheumatologic disease of childhood.
The program director is Andrew White, M.D.
