Rheumatology | Clinical

The clinical activities of the Division are carried out at the St. Louis Children's Hospital and the Shriners Hospital for Children.  More than 4,000 patient visits occur annually at these sites.  Children are seen in outpatient specialty clinics for rheumatology, including the arthritis specialty clinics at Shriners Hospital.  Children with immunologic disorders are cared for on a chronic basis by an established team of physicians, nurses, and physical therapists.  The care and evaluation of these patients is supported by a state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratory which includes all available serologic and cellular testing for rheumatologic diseases.  The lab is supervised by faculty members from the Division.  In addition to these outpatient evaluations, inpatients are seen on the wards of St. Louis Children's Hospital where consultations consist of complex patients admitted from a variety of different services.  A weekly clinical conference is held to review patient management and care from the outpatient clinics and inpatient consults.  A combined weekly Grand Rounds with the rheumatology program in the Division of Internal Medicine is the site of patient presentations and discussions, and a weekly combined research conference is the site for fellow interaction.
