Specialties | DIVISION OF RHEUMATOLOGY AND IMMUNOLOGY


 

Introduction

The Division of Rheumatology and Immunology is located at St. Louis Children's Hospital and is part of the Department of Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine. The division consists of five full-time faculty, fellows in training, a nurse specialist, a pediatric nurse practitioner, a physical therapist, nutritional and psychology consultants and secretarial support staff. The division is internationally recognized for investigation into the pathogenesis of immunologic disorders of childhood. The physicians are faculty at the medical school and are highly recognized for their skills in caring for children with immunologic and rheumatologic disorders. Patients are referred from around the United States for evaluation and the division has been designated a Regional Arthritis Center for the State of Missouri.

Mission Statement

  • Provide the highest standard of care for children with immunologic and rheumatologic disease. To this end, we shall endeavor to provide consultative services to the private and full-time staff regarding children who are potentially affected with these disorders.

  • Provide education and teaching to residents and medical students in order to facilitate their understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of these disorders.

  • Provide an environment of academic freedom in which the very highest quality research into the etiology and pathogenesis of these disorders can be conducted with the aim of training new investigators who may provide novel approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of immunologic and rheumatologic diseases.
