Leaves of Absence
FMLA: An eligible resident may request leave for his or her own serious health condition, the care of a new child or the health care of a seriously ill family member. Unpaid leave for a maximum of 12 weeks in a 12-month period will be granted per stipulations of the Family and Medical Leave Act.

Non-FMLA: For those situations in which the resident does not qualify for FMLA leave, the resident may request a leave from the program director. If leave is granted, the first six weeks will be paid, with time deducted from available vacation and holiday time and in some instances, from elective and subspecialty time. Leave of six weeks or less will not delay promotion to the next level of residency, provided all other requirements are met.
