Director, Residency Program

The selection of a residency program will be one of the most critical
decisions you will make during your medical training. We are pleased that
you are considering spending this important time at St. Louis Children's
Hospital and the Department of Pediatrics at Washington University School
of Medicine.
St. Louis Children's Hospital has been cradle and crucible for hundreds of
general pediatricians, pediatric specialists and clinician-investigators
for more than a century. As part of one of the major medical centers in the
United States, St. Louis Children's Hospital and Washington University
offer an opportunity for physicians to obtain comprehensive pediatrics
training in a world-class setting.
The combination of a bustling, modern regional pediatric hospital and a
vigorous, broad medical school offers the best qualities of two worlds.
The small hospital environment, focused on the special needs of children,
provides a feeling of community and purpose. Just beyond the hospital doors
is a vast resource for those who may choose advanced study in almost any
area of biomedical science.
House staff positions are available at PL-1, PL-2 and PL-3 levels.
Fellowships are offered in pediatric subspecialties. The pediatric service
also staffs the nurseries at adjacent Barnes-Jewish Hospital, where almost
5,000 deliveries are performed each year.
Our house staff has served as the doctors of children of St. Louis and the
region since the early part of this century. The current group maintains
and expands that tradition. They care for children -- and one
another -- and grow as both willing teachers and pupils. We
believe that there are no better people with whom you could choose to work
and learn.
