Program Leadership
Andrew White, MD, program director, and four associate program directors support observance of the residency competencies and interests and provide leadership for resident recruitment, curriculum, continuity clinic, career development and feedback.
The program’s three chief residents coordinate transports and off-site care of all critically ill children referred for admission to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. They control the patient allocation at SLCH, which balances workload for house staff and nurses. They are responsible for resident rotation scheduling. The
job of chief resident is highly regarded and competitive. Chief residency provides a challenging blend of clinical, educational and administrative responsibilities, with opportunity for refinement of clinical skills, development of leadership skills, participation in residency curriculum planning, and supervision of medical students and residents. Chief residents are selected at the end of the intern year.
