Health Behavior Research | Research

The research activities of the Division are diverse and include:

  • Community-based interventions for health risk reduction activities, such as smoking cessation
  • Management of chronic diseases including asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes
  • Psychosocial aspects of cancer: supportive counseling and the patient's experience of cancer
  • Geographic information analyses related to cancer prevention and control
  • The complex relationships among type and source of social support with health care, disease prevention, and adjustment to disease
  • Gerontology, successful aging, and health promotion among older adults
  • Instrument development and validation, including factor analysis, structural equation modeling, and cluster analysis
  • Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change - the "Stages of Change" Model
  • Motivation and motivation enhancement relating to recommended health practices and disease self-management
  • Evaluation of medical-school curricula and community-based, health-education programs
  • Women's health issues
  • Women's education and professional status in science and medicine from historical and contemporary perspectives
