Specialties | DIVISION OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES
Introduction
The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases is a section of the Department of
Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine and is based at St.
Louis Children's Hospital. Activities within the division revolve around
patient care, teaching and biomedical
research in the field of pediatric
infectious disease and microbial pathogenesis. In addition, the division is
responsible for medical directorship of the clinical microbiology laboratories
of St. Louis Children's Hospital and for directing the hospital's infection
control program. The division also participates in a number of programs with
the Division of Infectious Diseases
in the
Department of Medicine and with the
Department of Molecular Microbiology.
The division receives support for
training students and fellows from a training grant administered through the
Department of Medicine and from an independent training grant shared with the
Division of Pediatric Rheumatology and Immunology.
The division also
participates in the
Infectious Diseases Scholar Program.
Provide expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases in
children and offers care to all patients referred to St. Louis Children's
Hospital.
Dedicated to teaching medical students, residents and fellows about issues
relevant to childhood infections and to conducting fundamental and clinical
research in the areas of microbiology, immunology and infectious disease.
