What to Expect at Your Visit

Arrival

Detailed directions, maps, and lodging suggestions are available to help you reach our offices.

Checking In

You will check in at one of the reception desks on the second floor of St. Louis Children's Hospital or on the third floor of Doctor's Building C at MBMC. Please have your insurance card available. Co-pay will be requested prior to the visit.

The Evaluation

During the initial office visit, the doctor and his or her associates may spend 1 to 2 hours with you and your child. The need for laboratory studies and the treatment plan will be discussed with you. If results of laboratory tests or x-rays are needed that same day, additional time may be required. Although this will entail some waiting time for you, we feel it is compensated by the thoroughness of the evaluation.

Evaluation Results

After your visit, the specialist will call or write your child's personal physician to report the results of the evaluation. Your child may be scheduled for another visit to discuss the results of the tests with you or to observe the progress of treatment.

Pharmacy

There is an outpatient pharmacy on the first floor of St. Louis Children's Hospital that is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (M-F). The outpatient pharmacy at Missouri Baptist Hospital is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (M-F).

Billing

You or your insurance company will receive a bill from Washington University School of Medicine for the specialist's services. You may also receive a bill from St. Louis Children's Hospital if laboratory tests, radiology examinations or other services provided by the hospital were performed. For information about your bill, contact the Washington University Patient Billing Services line at (314) 935-0500 or (800) 862-9980.
