Specialties | DIVISION OF AMBULATORY MEDICINE

Introduction

The Division of Pediatric Ambulatory Medicine provides the administrative structure and support services for the ambulatory activities of the medical specialists in the Department of Pediatrics, and the Divisions of Pediatric Neurology and Pediatric Dermatology. Multiple services are coordinated in the Adolescent Center, the Diagnostic Center, the Epilepsy Center, the Cerebral Palsy Center, the Brachial Plexus Palsy Center, the Neurofibromatosis Progam and the Kidney, Lung, Liver, Heart and Bone Marrow transplantation programs. The division also oversees the operation of a pediatric multispecialty office at Missouri Baptist Medical Center (MBMC), where many pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists see ambulatory patients.

The division coordinates support services for more than 30,000 ambulatory visits annually to the office suites at St. Louis Children's Hospital and more than 10,000 visits to the MBMC office. Some of the division’s patients also use the services of the Procedure Center and the Infusion and Dialysis Center of St. Louis Children's Hospital. Patients receive specialized diagnostic services through the Washington University Division of Pediatric Radiology, the Heart Station, the Pulmonary Function Laboratory, the Sleep Laboratory, the EEG Laboratory, and the clinical chemistry, immunology, hematology, microbiology and virology laboratories.

Mission Statement

  • Provide exceptional specialized ambulatory services for children and adolescents. We believe that excellent care for patients with complex or unusual conditions is founded on close communication and collaboration between our specialists and primary physicians. We urge parents to arrange visits to our specialists in cooperation with their child's primary physician.

  • Improve the health of children and adolescents. Thus, division faculty pursue scholarly interests, including clinical research, basic research and medical education. The division also works to create an environment that can provide valuable learning experiences for trainees and an opportunity for patients to receive care from specialists who are working to understand the causes of childhood diseases and how to improve diagnosis and treatment.
