Adolescent Medicine | For Parents
What to Expect
We look forward to seeing your child in the Adolescent Center either at St. Louis Children's Hospital or at the Barnes West County. New patient appointments are scheduled for one and a half hours and return visits are scheduled for 30 minutes. Your visit time may be longer if laboratory tests or consultation with other specialists is required. It is important that you arrive on time for your appointment so that your child will have the benefit of the full appointment time. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please contact the Adolescent Center at (314) 454-2468 to cancel and/or reschedule. We suggest you use our valet parking services at St. Louis Children's Hospital; valet parking is free with validation of your parking ticket at our registration desk.
Before your appointment, we will request that your child's medical records be sent from your primary care physician and any specialists your child may have seen, so that we are as up to date as possible regarding your child's medical condition. In the Adolescent Center, your child will be seen by an Adolescent Center attending along with a physician associate who is training in adolescent medicine. These physicians will interview you and your child together, and will then speak with your child alone. At the end of the visit, your Adolescent Center physicians will discuss plans in detail with you and with your child, and will send a letter regarding the visit to your primary care physician. Your child may be asked to return for follow up visits to continue the evaluation or to monitor the treatment plan. If you have questions in between appointments, the Adolescent Center nurses are happy to take your calls and will forward information to your physicians.
We look forward to working with you in the Adolescent Center to make sure that your child receives the best medical care possible. Please do not hesitate to let us know if we can serve you better.
